They are used for glazing not basting. A Basting Brush, ordinary spoon or a Baster is used to baste. lol.

So when you are making scones or pies you use the brush to brush milk over the top.
That makes them go brown and crispy on top faster in the oven.
They are also used to spread egg/milk when making joins or seperating layers at times as well.

Basting is also a meat thing not a pastry thing.

Also aparently Turkey Basters are used for impregnating Lesbians...

And Now nou know.

And knowing is half the battle!

No, there are instances of pastry dishes that you baste, though yes, it is usually a meat thing.

I would hate to see how quickly a pastry brush would get disgusting if used for basting meat dishes though. lol.

The comeback should have been: "Hence why he needs more than one Pastry Brush to baste with."

I put it down to illness and coffee withdrawls.
