Well, I’ve made it for more than 30 days now without coffee, tea, or any kind of caffeinated soft drink. Yay me.
The change you notice within your own body rythms after the first couple of weeks as you get over the withdrawl is actually quite surprising. Obviously nobody’s going to deny caffeine’s proven stimulant effect but if you have more than a coffee every now and then, you don’t get much effect. You’re basically just returning yourself to your baseline every time you have a coffee rather than properly waking up. That morning sluggishness isn’t anything more than acute caffeine withdrawl.
Funny thing about it: After a couple of weeks I started waking up wide awake. The other great thing is that the “2PM slump” all serious caffeine connoisseurs can attest to goes away too.
In other news, here in Tasmania it’s cold right now. Very cold. I don’t like the cold. Somebody start cutting down some rainforests and burning plastic please. Greenhouse effect++.
