No Smoking

June 13th, 2010 | by TychoQuad

Stanley Quad:

Not everyone who smokes is a low-life, but all low-lifes smoke.

Out of all the lessons my father taught me, this is probably the one that has stuck with me the longest, and the one I’m constantly reminded about by the people around me. I’m not talking about my friends, I’m talking about the people I see in public practically every day.

Those of you who know me most likely know how anti-smoking I am, so would probably know what I think of the banning of smoking in key public places like the mall here in Hobart. But I’m not satisfied. There’s one more step that I would like taken which would pretty much eliminate passive smoking from my life, without banning it altogether and creating a black market for the products such as the war on drugs has caused in America.

I’m talking about banning public smoking.

Now to any smokers out there, I’d imagine you wouldn’t be too happy about that. You would think that if this happened, you would be unable to get your fix while at work, or shopping in town. That’s why I’m also proposing the establishment of smoking rooms.

It’s not as if Hobart is lacking in space in the middle of town, why not establish a series of extremely well ventilated rooms with two sets of doors which would allow people to sit and satisfy their cravings? Like laundromats allow people to sit down and read a magazine or watch a TV while waiting for their laundry to be done, these rooms could supply the same. I’ve noticed smokers aren’t exactly picky where they smoke.

Tobacconists could set up shops joined to these rooms, allowing people inside to renew their supply of cigarettes, while selling other items to the people outside.

Hell, I would even run one of these places if it would mean the end of public smoking! I’d simply devise a way to prevent smoke from creeping into the shop and I’d be golden.

Opinions? Feel free to share them on the forums. Oh wait, I don’t go there anymore. Nothing stopping you from discussing things there anyway, Send me a PM if you want to discuss it with me directly.
